GPE was founded
in 1977 in Gainesville, Florida by two pioneering geotechnical engineers. Their
mission for GPE was to design, manufacture and supply the geotechnical engineering
community with testing and inspection equipment, specializing in hard to find
items unavailable elsewhere.
The Marchetti
Dilatometer was one of the first systems offered by GPE and today, has become a
standard insitu soil exploration tool for many geotechnical engineers, testing
firms, and state and federal agencies. In 1982, GPE built the first drilled
Shaft Inspection Device (SID), for use by the Florida Department of
Transportation on the new Sunshine Skyway Bridge across Tampa Bay. Today, engineers
are designing more cost-effective foundations now that they are able to
visually determine the condition of the bottom of deep shaft excavations, even
when slurry is used. Over the years, many projects in the United States and
abroad have benefited from using innovative GPE equipment.
Today, GPE offers the
geotechnical profession a full range of drilled shaft inspection and testing
equipment, soil exploration and analysis equipment, and offering testing and
inspection services. Through over 20 years of research and product development,
GPE’s commitment to excellence has been unconditional, and will remain that way
as we pioneer our way into the 21st century.
